Publishing giant Electronic Arts (EA) has revealed that Sony generated more revenue than the Xbox 360 during it’s fiscal quarter ending June 30th 2009. However, Nintendo Wii outperformed both of the competition, once again demonstrating the importance of Nintendo’s flagship console to publishers.
It many ways it’s surprising to see the PS3 outdo the Xbox 360 in generating revenue for publishers since the Xbox 360's install base is about 6 million units ahead of the PS3.
The Xbox 360 brought in $73 million USD, while the PS3 brought EA an impressive $121 million USD during the same period. The Nintendo Wii shattered both of its competition by raking in a massive $161 million USD.
On the handheld front, the PSP took the crown with total revenue amounting to $38 million USD, while the DS only managed $28 million USD for EA.
EA, which dubbed itself as the number one publisher in the US and Europe in the June quarter, Says that the United States remained the most profitable region, with total revenue of $343 million USD. Europe and Asia followed, with revenues of $258 million USD and $43 million USD respectively.
