Infinity on MDW2: "We want them [gamers] to be emotionally shocked"

The recently leaked Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 video footage reveals that players can shoot innocent civilians in an airport in a realistic rendering of a terrorist attack. MDW2 is rated "M" for mature audiences, but according to Activisoin Blizzard Inc., people should not summarize the entire game based on an illegally taken piece of footage.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the company said the footage was taken illegally and is not representative of the game's overall experience. Instead, the scene is designed to evoke the "atrocities of terrorism." Activision said in an email statement.

Although the leaked footage surprised a lot, it should come as no surprise, because in a recent interview, Vince Zampella, head of the game's developer, Infinity Ward, said that they intended for their game to Startle players.

The company said, MDW2 follows players as they "face off against a terrorist threat dedicated to bringing the world to the brink of collapse." As part of the plot, you'll infiltrate a Russian villain's inner circle to defeat him. Evidently, the airport attack is one of the scenes in which the player acts as part of the villains group.

"We push the story," Vince Zampella said. "We want the player to be emotionally attached. We want them to be emotionally shocked."

Did people the media (including GamesThirst) give Uncharted 2: Among Thieves game of the year too early? Modern Warfare 2, I have a feeling will be total awesomeness, and surprise us all.

  1. I've seen civies go down before, hell, for most GTA veterans it was a sport, plugging civillians. I've seen them twist & turn in Euphoria, I've sent 10.000 infamous volts throuh them, they've frequently been under my car...move along people, nothing to see here.

  2. Exactly, at least in MW2 those killing the civilians are doing it for a cause they believe in, in GTA it's just for fun. I think that the latter case is far worse and more "emotionally shocking" to those that might care. To me it's just a video game, get over it.

    No, goodnight!

  4. It also makes you absolutely despise the main villain, Vladimir Makarov, because when you play this mission, you're playing from the point of view of an undercover C.I.A. agent. In order to infiltrate Makarov's inner circle, you must do as they do. The part that makes you hate him is when you escape the airport. He starts to help you up into the getaway vehicle and shoots you in the face...he knew you were undercover the whole time. But he had no problem letting you go along and kill dozens of people in vain.

  7. Um... MW2 > Uncharted 2. No contest. Left 4 Dead 2 > Uncharted 2. Pikmin > Uncharted 2. Yeah, Yeah... it's whatever really. Uncharted reminds me of a really thought out Crimson skies (yes I've played both 1+2). It's not my kind of game. Neither is pikmin for the record.

As for the post. The first comment should be all thats needed. When you can plow through a virtual realization of Times Square blarring techno music and running over pedestrians with out any back story at all without raising an eyebrow then you know this controversy holds no merit. Spoiler guy even let loose some facts about the back story of it. It's nothing more than story telling... basically a movie. That's all.

  8. how can MW2 seriously even hope of competing with uncharted 2 when the single player mode only lasts like 6 hours.
MW2 cant even beat assassins creed 2 let alone uncharted 2.

They're not budget games like Snake or Tetris either. Smart phones are able to play video games that have the same quality that portable gaming devices produce. undefined
