With the PSPgo now available around the world, some might conclude that Sony is through with UMD and is heading full throttle into the digital age. That could not be further from the truth according to Webush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter.
"I think it is possible that the PSP-4000 will support UMD, and I think that Sony will support which ever formats makes it the most money," Pachter said in an interview with edge. "It's an interesting dilemma. Without a question, there is room for packaged products and the benefits of digital-only are probably more than offset by forgone sales of UMD."
"I think that the next version will likely have both, with a disc drive that uses no power if the user is playing a downloaded game. The question is whether it's too bulky, but my guess is that they can fit some flash in there, or equip the game with a 16GB memory memory stick and consumers will be perfectly happy."
Michael Pachter is at it again folks, I guess he's the voice of the industry now?
