Rumor Thirst: Netflix is heading to the PS3

One of Microsoft's selling points for the Xbox 360 has been to tout its streaming movie service offered by Netflix. The deal, an exclusive one between the software giant and the number streaming movie service provider is not one that'll last forever, according to Netflix CEO, and now it seems the exclusive tie was shorter than we thought.

The company's stock hit a new high Friday when word leaked a new deal that would bring a large wave of subscribers was in the works.

Shares of Netflix soared as high as $57.50 before falling back to $54.16 on Friday afternoon, trading higher by $4.53 or 9.1 percent.

The Xbox 360 has played a mammoth role in helping bolster Netflix userbase by adding 2.4 million new subscribers since September 2008, which was the biggest burst of growth in the company's history.

Now it's the PS3's turn it seems, and if true, it's another addition to the ever-growing PSN, making Sony's platform even more attractive.

Netflix: We want to be on all game consoles

The Xbox 360 has been the only game Console this generation, to stream on-demand movies from the Xbox 360, directly unto your TV screen and into your living room using the leading provider Netflix. This is because, for now Microsoft has an exclusive deal with the Company that prohibits them from being on any other gaming platform. But thanks to Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, the good folks who own other consoles like the PS3, and Nintendo Wii, the wait will soon be over.

Speaking with Reuters, Mr. Hastings confidently relayed his vision for the Company, here's what he said:

"Eventually we want to be on all the games consoles, all the blu-ray players, all the internet TVs. So we are working in parallel with all those efforts. Currently our Xbox deal is exclusive and we haven't characterized it more than that," Reed stated.

So, if you've been wanting to get the latest movies on-demand, and you don't own a Xbox 360, your wait it seems, will soon be over. Breathe easy.

Xbox 360 has "Exclusive Partnership" for consoles with Netflix

According to the xbox.com site, this exclusive deal allows you the ability to stream movies and TV episodes from Netflix to your television through the Xbox 360. Microsoft's console will be the only system to offer this movie watching experience says xbox.com. And will be available to xbox live gold members, who also are Netflix unlimited plan subscribers at no additional cost.

Movie Parties – Xbox LIVE Gold members can sit together in a virtual theater with up to seven friends no matter where they are while your Avatars watch a movie, flirt or even throw popcorn at each other.
Manage Your Queue – Browse the Netflix Instant Watch video catalogue, choose from the most popular movies and genres and add to your queue all from the comfort of your couch – no computer required.
Enhanced Playback Experience – Enjoy a smooth viewing experience when your internet bandwidth fluctuates.
Friends Info – Richer information is now displayed in the Friends channel and in the Guide showing what you and your friends are doing.

It's not clear whether this "exclusive partnership" means Netflix will only be on the Xbox 360 or is it just the aformentioned features. There was a rumor claiming that Netflix was looking to do business with Sony and other Consoles, I guess we'll have to wait and see.

ABC’s top shows Streaming on Netflix

ABC and Netflix have reached a deal to make shows like Lost available online. The agreement includes the first five seasons of Lost and select seasons of Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate housewives and other shows. But for now you’ll only be able to view Lost on the streaming service. The other shows will be available next month.

I’m a big fan of Lost, my wife loves Grey’s Anatomy, so it will be nice to take a trip down memory lane and watch the old episodes. Netflix in many ways is making its business model more attractive at every turn.
