Rumor Thirst: Wii 2 coming late next year with blu-ray functionality

This generation, although the Wii has been the biggest success of all consoles on the market, they've literally ignored the hardcore market. Little to no games cater to them, and it has been a stigma following Nintendo all through this cycle.

Well things are about to change, and change big, if, and that's a huge if this rumor is factual.

Maxconsole has said that they've received a tip via logic-sunrise.com through a Nintendo France marketing employee. In the tip, details of a New Wii are given, including a blu-ray drive mainly to stop piracy. According to the site, actual information was leaked by an internal source of the marketing Nintendo France service.

~ The Wii 2 will feature a blu-ray drive with a secondary aim of stopping piracy.

~ 1080p and lower resolutions will be supported for blu-ray movies and games.

~ Rumored release date is Q3 2010.

~ It will receive a worldwide release on the same day for all countries.

~ You'll be able to trade-in your old Wii and purchase the Wii 2 at a cheaper price.

The marketing employee also said that Nintendo would like to make a worldwide announcement only one month before the new console is launched, and that huge publicity and viral marketing will be utilized to create the buzz.

Rest asuured, buzz or no buzz we'll be picking this up on day one, if there's anything to pick up that is. Take with a grain of salt folks, don't break anything just yet.

Rumor Thirst: Timesplitters 4 coming 2010?

This month's Playstation: The Official Magazine has a lot of juicy information for its readers. Some so juicy, you have to wonder who in the world gave these guys all this info.

Going through the pages of the December issue, I saw a segment with the headline "The Secret Games of 2010." On the list of secret games, there are titles such as Hitman 5, Beyond Good & Evil 2, and even Ghost Recon 4. But what really took me by surprise was when I saw Timesplitters 4 on the list.

The magazine also hints at the game being reincarnated by the ex-Free Radical team which has been absorbed and relabeled as Crytek UK. The magazine also went on to say, while some of the games on the list might be unconfirmed, 2010 is indeed shaping up to be a mighty year for the industry and gamers alike.

Rumor Thirst: Next Xbox already in the works, AMD won GPU deal

I said in an article that Microsoft will jump into the next generation of consoles before Sony, and if this rumor turns out to be true, it would vindicate my opinion. The Xbox 360 don't have much wind left to blow, and the Redmond giant knows it. According to fudzilla, AMD has already won a deal to produce the GPU for the next Xbox.

The GPU in the current Xbox 360 was also made by AMD, so it seems Microsoft is happy with AMD's offerings, and decided if it ain't broke don't fix it?

The report states that the new console will be released in 2010 since the current economic crisis prevented both Microsoft and Sony from releasing their next gen systems earlier. Get the full thing here. Remember it's a rumor, so take with a grain of salt.
