Killzone turns 5, GG gives away DLC, hosts retro tournament

Already five years have disappeared since the original Killzone title was released for the PS2. Now we're full throttle in the seventh generation of gaming and not many other games have made such a huge splash and garnered massive critical praise like Killzone 2.

Guerrilla Games are proud of the franchise they've created and would like to share their excitement with you.

Here's what's in store for fans in the next few days:

  • Looking back at Killzone 1
    Later this week on
    Killzone.com, Seb “Motherh” Downie and I are going to play through the first Killzone game for you. We’ll be commenting on our favourite sections and wallowing in beer-induced nostalgia.

  • DLC download code giveaway
    Haven’t checked out the
    Killzone 2 DLC map packs yet? You’re in luck, because Guerrilla is having a DLC download code giveaway. Keep a close eye on Killzone.com this week for full details!

  • Killzone 2 retro tournament
    This weekend (November 27-30) Guerrilla will host a Killzone 2 retro tournament, using only the Beach Head and Southern Hills maps from the second DLC pack. And there’s more to be gained than valor alone, because…

  • Double XP Weekend returns
    …the tournament will take place during a Double XP Weekend! Just like last time, any game created in the weekend of November 27-30 will yield extra XP to help you boost your ranking.

  • Killzone 1 and 2 side-by-side
    Finally, Killzone.com editor Victor Zuylen will compare various features of Killzone 2 with its predecessor next week, illustrating exactly how far we’ve come since the first Killzone game was released.

Hope you get lucky.

Guerrilla Games prepares for massive project, seeks new people to join team

Not too long ago, news broke that Guerrilla Games, the studio behind the critically acclaimed Killzone 2 is already full throttle into development of Killzone 3. It was also rumored that said game would in fact be released in 2010. That we're not sure of, but if the recent posting on their website holds true, there is no doubt that the team is either working overtime to release the game sooner rather than later, or there's another major project in the works all together.

Do you think you have what it takes to become a team member at Guerrilla Games? Try your luck then.

Here are the positions now open:

* Senior Producer

* Senior Level Designer

* Senior Game Coder

* Senior Build Engineer

* Senior Game Designer

* Senior Environment Artist

"Guerrilla Games is rapidly expanding game development studio with an established reputation as one of Europe's leading game developers," the company said on its website.

"Founded in 2000 as a result of a merger between three smaller studios, Guerrilla now employs 130 developers from 20 different nationalities."

The positions listed above are indicative to one thing, something big is cooking up in The Netherlands, and Guerrilla Games are the ones in the kitchen.

Rumor Thirst: Killzone 3 coming in 2010

Listen, Killzone 2 in our opinion, is the best darn shooter to date. Period. And if this rumor is confirmed as true, PS3 fans will have more than enough exclusives to boot in 2010.

In the latest issue of Playstation: The Official Magazine, Killzone 3 is reportedly in development by Guerrilla Games according to the mag, and Sony is actually eyeing a 2010 release.

PTOM also made mention of Resistance 3 and World at War 2 from Treyarch, but Killzone 3? Now that's big news.

Since Killzone 2 was recently released on February 27th of this year, no one was expecting any information concerning another installment, at least not so soon.

It's a rumor though, so take with a grain of salt. Get the full vibe here.
