Ladies and Gentlemen, it is here. A game that has taken the industry to new heights with stellar storytelling that leaves Hollywood struggling to match; graphics not seen on any other platform, gameplay more polished and refined than the best of them, and a cinematic experience so real, you would think you're not playing a game, but rather, battling it out among thieves in an action packed big budget feature film. Oh, don't take my word for it, let's take a read at what the IGN reviewer (Chris Roper) had to say: More than any other game to date, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune seems to define the PlayStation 3. Naughty Dog's 2007 jungle romp starring the one and only Nathan Drake gave gamers a taste of what it would be like to play as an acrobatically-inclined Indiana Jones. With stunning visuals (that still rank amongst the best in gaming today), a fantastically told story, great puzzles and high-octane gunplay, it's easily one of the best titles of this console generation.
Now Naughty Dog returns to the spotlight with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Both expectedly and amazingly, Naughty Dog has indeed bested Nate's first adventure and has created a sequel that is not only bigger and better in practically every way, but also packs a multiplayer component that could be released as its own separate, full-priced game and people would stand in line to hand over their cash.
Yes, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is fantastic.
That's just one paragraph of 4 pages of great praises for the game. If the Same IGN gave Resistance 2 9.5, LBP 9.5, Batman Arkham Asylum 9.3, can someone please tell me why a game that is miles ahead in every department did not get a perfect 10? I am not some angry fanboy crying about the game not getting a perfect score just because I wanted it to, no, on the contrary, I believe a game should be reviewed with no bias; but when a game has just raised the bar, it should be rewarded accordingly. And the reviews don't lie:
GamesRadar = perfect 10 - "Bigger! Better! Beautiful-er! Nathan Drake returns to blow away the competition"
OPM = Perfect 5 - "forget game of the year. This is one of the best games of all time."
PSM3 = 21/20 - "Monstrous"
And the list goes on. Even some sites that are scantly known have something to say, and that is, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is the best and most advanced-in-every-way game they've come across. So it rubs me wrong that IGN would give such a game 9.5, yet still give GTA IV a perfect 10, and that game was flawed in so many ways. Don't misunderstand, it was great, but not worthy of the highest score in gaming. Halo 3 got a 9.6! Yes, again, the third installment of the Halo saga was great, but if you can give Halo 3 9.6, then why not Uncharted 2? Halo did not do what Uncharted is doing now for the industry; oh yes, it sold millions of copies, but that does not justify anything.
My mind is leaning towards internal "behind the scenes" bosses at IGN demanding that the game don't get the perfect score, or maybe it's just me (I hope so). However, there is not one reason on earth, why IGN couldn't have been just, and bless the Naughty Dogs with the well deserved "Highest Honor" with no spot or rinkle, nor blemish. You be the judge, what do you think, did IGN purposefully not give Uncharted the perfect score, or are they spot on? I wonder what gamespot have up the trunks, hmm.

Well, maybe different persons reviewed this games, everybody has a different mind and remember IGN is just the name of the WebSite.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you there Play, however, it is worth pointing out their incompetence when reviewing games. If you give a perfect 10 to GTA IV and 9.6 to Halo 3, although both games were great, Uncharted 2 seems to have them beat in all departments, hence warranting a score just as high as GTA IV or at least on the same level with Halo 3.
ReplyDeleteThe only bad thing (if you can call it bad) I read in their review was the fact they found it hard to get past the first level of the game because it revolves solely around stealth play. Funny shit.
ReplyDelete@Justin, total nonsense if you ask me. If that was the only "bad" thing, it's a shame the score isn't higher. IGN really needs to get their reviewing system together. Either that, or something else is going on. I'm no fanboy, it's simple truth.
ReplyDeleteIGN gave it a 9.5 and Halo 3 a 9.6 for a very obvious reason. Microsoft. No hate, you do what you do to stay ahead. but was Halo 3.1 better than Uncharted 2. If the price is right it is.
ReplyDeleteYou know Jason, a lot of scenarios went through my mind concerning why didn't IGN rate Uncharted Higher, even your opinion. "If the price is right it is." You may be right, you may also be wrong, but if indeed you are right, then gamers are the ones loosing at the hand of greedy corporations.
