Uncharted 2 will overtake Metal Gear Solid 4 to become the best selling PS3 exclusive

A storm is coming, not one that'll destroy your house or take your roof, this storm won't leave you without electricity for months and cause FEMA to visit your town. No, this storm is not a natural disaster; it's man-made experience that's about to shake the gaming community come October 13th, the name of said storm is Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. It will cause developers to pay more attention to their work in terms of overall gameplay, immersion and storytelling, and yes, Nathan Drake will become the best selling PS3 exclusive to date. Easily beating out Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots; Here's why.

When Uncharted: Drakes Fortune came out, the install base of the PS3 was rather thin, Sony's flagship console launched in 2006, but because of a price most gamers refused to accept, the system had a rough start. However even in the midst of a slow beginning, and the Xbox 360 having at that time a much bigger install base, Uncharted: Drakes fortune was selling exceptionally well for a new IP. Quietly the game sold over 2.6 million copies becoming one of the best selling titles on the PS3.

Now the PS3's install base is substantially bigger, and just like Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots, Uncharted 2 will be graced with its own bundle. The game as of now has a better metacritic score, and reviewers are calling it a must buy for all PS3 owners. If one's to think reasonably, it's not a hard case to make concerning how well the game will sell. As of today, Metal Gear Solid 4 has sold over 4.5 million copies since it released June 12th 2008, back then the PS3 install base was only half what it is today, that gives Uncharted 2 an advantage Metal Gear Solid never had. Think about it, if Metal Gear Solid 4 was released today, the game would definitely have better sales results compared to one and a half years ago when it was released, that's why when the PS3 received the price cut, the game made it back to the top five on amazon's bestsellers list.

With a massive ad campaign taking place as we speak, word of mouth praise that seems to be more effective than anything else these days, Sony's "it only does Uncharted" ad and a release date perfectly placed, what you have is a storm of Uncharted proportions that's about to hit gamers the world over by surprise. I see Uncharted 2: Among Thieves selling way more than Metal Gear Solid 4, and reaching total sales of over 6.5 million copies, while MGS4 make it to about 5 million lifetime sales. Nathan will be out trotting the globe on October 13th and 16th in the US and Europe respectively, join him.
