Is Batman Arkham Asylum being overlooked for GOTY?

Batman AA was an excellent game, sure it had it's issues but what game doesn't? Over the past month Uncharted 2 was released and just today the golden cow Modern Warfare 2 burst onto the scene. Both of these games are in the discussion for goty right now, but doesn't Batman deserve some mention?

The title shouldn't be left out of the conversation, in fact more people should jump on the bandwagon to encourage developers like Rocksteady to take chances on new ideas and games. When this game dropped pretty much all the main stream gaming publications gave it 9's or better. This title alone revolutionized what a "super hero" game should feel and play like. There has not been a better portrayal of the Dark Knight in all his splendor taking out the Joker and his henchmen along with a few super villains on the way. Once the game is over you then have a gang of challenge rooms to beat.

On the Ps3 side of things you also have a chance to get down with the Clown Prince and beat up prison guards and even Commissioner Gordon himself. Batman actually brought something new to the table instead of just a graphics face lift with a few extra modes on something that was already a high quality product. Batman games starting on the NES all the way up to previous generations have been pure garbage; this version is like a reboot for the Batman series. Isn't that what a game of the year nominee should do for you?

Batman: Arkham Asylum ships 2.5 million worldwide

It might just be the best video game iteration of a movie thus far, and sales are definitely rewarding a stellar effort from Rocksteady Studios. When reviews of Batman's latest war against the Joker surfaced, it was nothing short of magnificent. From IGN to Gamespot, all were hailing Batman: Arkham Asylum as the best installment of the series yet. In fact, many have placed their bets, proclaiming it as a solid Game Of The Year contender.

Win or lose, none would deny the greatness of this rear gem. In what is often a rushed out effort by studios so that games based on Hollywood flicks could be released at the same time the movie does, Batman: Arkham Asylum stands as a testament to developers and publishers alike. What's the lesson? Don't rush out the games; you'll only be rewarded with major fail.

According to gamespot, Eidos, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, and Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham Asylum has enjoyed all sorts of success, both critical and commercial. From since its launch on the PS3 and Xbox 360, the game has managed to ship over 2.5million copies globally. And although the pace has slowed a bit, bats continue to fly off store shelves at an impressive rate. Good for them. And for we the gamers, because this means we'll be assured a sequel. Right?

PC version of Batman: Arkham Asylum pushed to September

Batman: Arkham Asylum will be released on the PS3 and Xbox 360 simulteanously Tuesday August 25th. But all you PC loyalists will have to wait till September 18th to get Arkham back under control. The PC version's delay is most likely due to the confirmation of NVIDIA's Physx support for the game, which enables thick clouds to spew down corridors, cobwebs to cling and tear, stone pillars will crumble, wall tiles will chip etc. It's a wait worthy of your patience, since NVIDIA's graphics card will boost the games visuals substantially.

This Summer haven't produced many good games at all, so August 25th can't get here soon enough. I know, you can't wait to smack the laugh off the joker's face. But be warned, it won't be that easy.

Batman Arkham: Asylum Set For August 7

A demo of Batman: Arkham Asylum is heading to PSN and XBLA marketplace on Friday, giving gamers a taste of what's to come when it finally drops on August 25 in North America and August 28th in Europe.

In the demo, you’ll play as Batman through the intro of the game as you and the commissioner (Gordon), escort the Joker back to Arkham Asylum. But escorting such and elusive villain won’t be child’s play. The joker suddenly gains the edge and spring forth a trap, setting those who occupy Arkham against the Batman.

The demo will let you unlock character bios and give you a sneak peak at some of the foes you’ll be facing in the full game. It'll also display the game’s “FreeFlow” combat system aiding you to land combos seamlessly. I can’t wait to get my hands on this one; from what I’ve seen, the game should perform beautifully.
