First Impressions: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Demo

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is the newest handheld iteration of the popular series and the full game will be released in 2010. But how well does it fair against the other titles in the franchise?

The demo doesn't last very long but one of the most notable things about it is that the visuals are actually quite stunning and on par with the PS2 versions of the Metal Gear Solid games, which is truly impressive for a handheld.

All of the basic MGS trademarks are here as far as gameplay is concerned except now, 4 Snakes can play at once thanks to the game's messed up storyline and the multiplayer function which this demo does contains.

You have access to a few missions that will test just how well you can sneak and it's always fun catching a faceless bad guy and tossing him off a bridge. Good times I must say.

Does the demo have flaws? Yes but there isn't very many of them. The cross-hair when you are manually aiming is a total pain and extremely touchy and the camera has a tendency to be irritating as well sometimes.

If you're a fan of the MGS franchise then you should definitely give the demo a shot as it is only around 100MB in size and pretty fun to play.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker comes to the U.S. on May 25th, EU May 28th

Kojima and his team are putting the finishing touches on Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, the highly anticipated PSP title. According Kojima-san, it is the true sequel to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

As you may know, anything the man touches becomes gold, and surely, if we're to go on what he's delivered in the past, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will be another Triple A title.

Get your hands on it in the U.S. on May 25th, 2010, and in EU on May 28th, 2010.

Can't wait for this one.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker gets an official release date

Although it was leaked by Famitsu, Konami has now official announced the release date of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for PSP and PSPgo.

March 18th, 2010 is when you'll be able to get your hands on this highly anticipated exclusive Playstation portable title, that is if you leave in Japan. Nothing was said about a North American or European release so we'll just have to wait.

Nonetheless it's good to know that the game will finally be out in just a few months, it's about time we get our Metal Gear fix wouldn't you say?

Kojima: I'm looking forward to what younger staff creates with MGS: Rising

Are you worried about what the younger Kojima Productions staff will do with Metal Gear Solid: Rising? Are you terrified they might mess up what to this day has been geniusly crafted perfection? Well worry not your heads MGS fans, because the man behind the Franchise is not breaking a sweat.

In an interview with the EU PS Blog, Kojimasan was asked: "when you leave the younger team in control of Metal Gear Solid: Rising, are you afraid they'll spoil it?" To which Kojima responded:

"How I created the Metal Gear Solid series is what I created for the past 20yrs or so. That's the world I created so I want people to expect more of a bigger scope or a bigger world of Metal Gear Solid," he said. "If I pass on to my young staff, I think there will only be a new kind of Metal Gear with their new thinking~new involvement, I kept my world of Metal Gear Solid of the titles that I have presented before, It means I have kind of stepped back as a producer and I'm kind of looking forward actually to what my younger staff will create, a new kind of world or color to the MGS franchise."

Kojima: Peace Walker Will Make You Buy PSP

If there's anyone who should be taken seriously when he speaks it's Hideo Kojima; the man is a legend in his own rights, accomplishing what only few have in the gaming industry. Now he's teasing something that, according to him will make you go out and purchase a PSP.

I have no clue what it might be but I'll be taking some guesses after the interview. Here's Kojima talking to Japanese magazine Famitsu:

"I'm putting everything I want to do on a portable console into this game," Kojima said. "I haven't announced this yet, but there's another feature here that will surprise people, to the point that they will want to go out and buy a PSP right now!"

Okay, here are my efforts:

1. Snake singing a song (Snake Eater).

2. Feature giving you access to special items (guns) in Metal Gear Solid: Rising

3. It'll inject your PSP with nanomachines that'll build you a second analog? (I ripped this one off, too hilarious!)

And there you have it, those are my (minus one) guesses, now it's your turn. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will be available for Sony's handheld sometime in 2010.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Kojima's last Playstation exclusive?

Kojima and his team are working extremely hard to make the PSP title Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker a first class game. We'd expect nothing less from the San himself, but with Metal Gear Solid: Rising being announced as a multiplatform title, and Kojima building strong ties with Microsoft, many have a nagging feeling that Peace Walker might be Sony's last exclusive title from the legend.

A few days ago, Microsoft unveiled some partners who've signed on to make Project Natal a success. Not only was Hideo Kojima a part of that team, but he also had some choice and very positive words to say concerning Project Natal, read about his excitement here.

We live in a time of payouts and behind-the-curtain deals, therefore, it's not far fetched to think about the possibility of all Metal Gear games after Peace walker going mulitplatform. This is exactly what happened with Metal Gear Solid: Rising. Also, Konami is in the games business to make money, and when looking at the Xbox 360, it'd be foolish to ignore the console's userbase of 31 million. Keep in mind, Konami remains Kojima's boss, and at the end of the day, he has to adhere to the company's decisions. However, Kojima was never one to compromise quality, so rest assured even if all his games after Peace Walker go on both the PS3 and Xbox 360, they'll be masterpieces. Metal Gear Solid: Rising will attest to that.
